PHB Ethical Beauty Makeup Review

My sister bought me some PHB Ethical Beauty products for Christmas. I was so excited because they’re a family run business, natural, free from nasties and cruelty-free. They also donate 20% of their net profits to charities so the company sounded right up my street.

I was dubious though because my experience with natural makeup has been a bit hit and miss. Besides if I’m completely honest I hadn’t even heard of this brand.

My sister got me three products. The All in One Natural Mascara (shade black), the BB Botanical Cream (medium) and the Organic Lip Glaze (shade Mulberry).

First, let’s discuss the All in One Mascara. Now I’ve tried a few natural mascara’s and yet to find one I love so I didn’t hold much hope. However, that being said its award winning so it did sound promising.

The Mascara is designed to lengthen, thicken and give you volume, whilst being good for sensitive eyes and water-resistant. I’ve been using it now for over two weeks to really get a feel for it so I could give you the most honest review.

I have to say I’m impressed, really impressed. I’ve found a lot of natural mascara’s without the rubbish ingredients like parabens and propylene glycol literally just flake off or don’t seem to make much difference to my lashes. This one does work well and lasts all day. Also, it’s priced at £15.95 (current price on their website at the time of writing this), which for a natural, cruelty-free product that donates 20% to charity I think that’s a really good price.

phb-ethical-beauty-all-in-one-mascaraMy eyelashes are lengthened and thickened. I wouldn’t say there is loads of volume though, however, there is some but it’s quite a natural lift rather than a full on voluminous lift. Perfect for a day look, but for an evening I prefer a tad more. It’s a really lovely mascara and it’s now become my everyday mascara. The only thing I didn’t love was the wand gets a bit messy and clumpy, but it’s not really an issue and doesn’t affect the mascara. You just might find it handy to have an eyelash comb, but I don’t have one. Must invest.

Overall Thought: Love it
Score: 8/10
Would I Recommend: Absolutely
Bonus Points: natural, eco, vegan and free from nasties.

medium-bb-cream-phb-ethical-beautyThe Botanical BB Cream is described as being a subtle coverage to leave the skin looking flawless and radiant. I have to say it does just that. It provides a light coverage and leaves my skin lovely. No breakouts, just lovely skin. I’m prone to blackheads so it’s really important that I find something that doesn’t clog my pores. I have to admit I’ve never used a BB cream before so I have nothing to compare it too so I’m not going to talk about it too much, as I’m unsure what the competition is like in comparison, however, I really like it. Priced at £18.95 (current price on their website at the time of writing this) and most of my natural moisturisers cost me more than that with no coverage so I’m pleased with that. The only thing to point out is if you’re looking for something matte it’s not, it’s more sheen which personally I don’t mind.

Overall Thought: Perfect if you want something natural, moisturising with light coverage.
Score: 8/10
Would I Recommend: Yes
Bonus Points: natural, eco, vegan, doesn’t clog pores and SPF 15.

I also use this for my beach look, which you can read about here.

Lastly the Organic Lip Glaze in Mulberry.  This is really nice, non-sticky and I would say mulberry-lip-glaze-phb-ethical-beautyquite subtle personally. Although in the tube it looks quite vibrate. I was chuffed to see unlike many lip glosses and lip balms it’s free from petrochemicals and just full of natural ingredients.  The colour is perfectly nice although it’s not a colour I’d usually choose. It’s kinda pink with purple undertones, but to be fair that’s how it’s described. Priced at £10.95 (current price on their website at the time of writing this).

Overall Thought: Nice natural gloss.
Score: 7/10
Would I Recommend: Yes
Bonus Points: Free from petrochemicals, non-sticky and 82% organic ingredients.

I’ve never heard of this brand but they look quite good – especially the mascara… I always really struggle to find one that looks nice but still quite natural!

What a lovely brand to donate! That BB cream looks good, I use one but like the idea of a natural one!

Loving the makeup on you and I love supporting family run business and extra browny points, for being cruelty free and organic and that they also give back. Great choices to your sister.

I love the shade of lip gloss. I think lip gloss has to be a bit subtle in colour than lipstick.

Hi Kirsty thank you for your reviews! Please may I ask how you applied the BB? Fingers, brush, sponge…? Did you use any serum/moisturiser beforehand or straight onto clean skin? I ask as one side of my face looks perfect with it but the other side of my face has dry patches that it clings to. I’ve tried various ways so far with no luck. Applying moisturiser first seems to make the BB sit on top rather than blend in. I’m persevering though 🤞🏻
You mentioned that you get blackheads and this was a problem for me until I found PHB. Their face washes have completely changed the look of my skin! They’ve not been completely eradicated but I used to be able to see them easily around and all over my nose and now I have to get right up to the mirror and contort my face in a ridiculous way to be able to see a few very fine ones. My skin looks radiant and smooth, a transformation 👍🏻
I have loads of PHB products which I’m really happy with – good to see that this ethical family business is doing so well!

Hi Sarah, I applied with fingers and then would use a sponge to smooth it. Yes, I used a serum or facial oil 1st as that’s just my normal routine. Oh, that’s good to know, thank you, will have to give them a go too! Yes, it really is, I’m so pleased 🙂
