Running & Mantra’s

This year I’ve started back running again after 6 months. I have to say I’m loving it. It’s hard going, I’m out of breath easily, but it’s me time. As I run I say a positive mantra and it’s like a form of meditation. Sometimes all I think about is “wow this is so hard” as I pant and struggle on, but every now and then I find I switch off and get lost in it all. I feel connected, I feel alive and in a complete zen. After the run I have feel good endorphins. I love that feeling of getting in the warm after a bitter cold run. I love being out in nature. It’s calming if you take the time to really look at it whilst you run, you can get lost in the beauty of it all.

Running may not be the best way to get in shape, but it’s great for the mind. This year my focus is much more on  being mentally and emotionally fit. It’s not about being the best runner, it’s just about feeling good. I know I could get better results from HIIT, but this I enjoy much more and isn’t that the point? Life is suppose to be fun. We are meant to be happy. Aren’t results just worthless if we are miserable. I went through a time where I loved HIIT and I hope that love will come back, but right now running is my zen.

I usually only get out once a week for a run, it’s all I can work in around the kids. Nonetheless its utter bliss. Not because it’s always easy, in fact it’s never easy. It’s just that feeling of pride that I’d made it a priority to take some time out. Sometimes it feels impossible when you have responsibilities to take time out, but I’ve realised I’m a better wife, Mum and friend when I do.

Kirsty xx

Good for you! My running enthusiasm comes in waves. At the moment I’m out of the habit, but need to get back into it after the indulgences of Christmas. I agree, it’s so hard fitting it around the kids, especially in winter with the dark evenings. Keep up the good work. Kate x

I agree with you that running is great for the mind. I started running years ago when my kids were little as it was the only time in my day when I did something for me and no-one could make demands of me. It was my headspace – still is!

Can’t wait to get out and run, been so long! I find running can be really relaxing and help clear the mind. Love listening to music on a run as well, especially something empowering x

I love running. I can’t go far but I’m trying. I love how I can beat away any anxieties by pounding my feet on the pavement.

I couldn’t agree with you more. There are times when I have run and it has all clicked into place and I just fly. More often it is a struggle, but I always feel so much better mentally afterwards. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to run much recently due to time pressures and PGP, but hopefully when the evenings get lighter and my baby sleeps again I’ll be heading out again. A new park run started last week near me as well so I really want to go to that.

Snap about the feeling of coming in from a freezing cold run! Before I had Boo I would run 10ks all the time, now I can barely run to the end of the road, definitely need to find my running mojo…
