The Perfect Summer Breakfast Smoothie 🌅

I don’t know about you, but in the Summer I crave something really refreshing. This smoothie has been my ultimate fav and go to breakfast for the past few weeks. It’s a great way to start my day healthy and boost my energy levels. It also helps you feel more hydrated, which has been especially great during this glorious heat wave.

Now I have to admit I’m no food blogger with perfect measurements for you. I’m much more of a throw it all in and eye ball the amount to see if it looks about right. Or in my case hope for the best. However I feel with a smoothie you can’t really go wrong. This is what I do with guesstimates for measurements.

breakfast smoothie ingredients

First I add in one small banana and about a handful of frozen berries. You can use fresh berries,  but I prefer frozen for a cooler and more economical smoothie. Bananas are great for thickening your smoothie and creating a smooth texture. Not to mention a great source of energy and studies reckon due to the B6 in bananas they are also a great natural anti-depressant. The frozen berries are full of disease fighting antioxidants.

Next I add in coconut milk (unsweetened is the way to go if you’re trying to healthy, if you can get it). I reckon I put in about a cup of coconut milk, basically enough to cover all the fruit. You can use any milk of choice, or even water. I use coconut milk as I don’t believe dairy is healthy for us and so I’m working to cut my dairy intake down. I don’t think soya is that healthy either and I’m been lead to believe almond milk isn’t very ethical (must do my research on this), so for now I’m been sticking to coconut milk.  It’s easy to get hold of and works well in this smoothie.

Then I add my last three ingredients and blitz in my NutriBullet until smooth. Sometimes I may add ice or cold water on really hot days too. So the last three ingredients are cinnamon, chia seeds and cocoa complex. Chia seeds are classed as a superfood. They are packed full of vitamins and minerals, whilst also being high in plant-based protein. Chia seeds are rich in omega 3 fatty acids too. Great for your health, skin and mind. I add about a tablespoon in.

Next I add in cinnamon to level out my blood sugar levels. It helps me feel fuller for longer and also prevents an energy crash later. I just add in a 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon. I use ceylon cinnamon because it’s naturally sweeter & healthier for you. Lastly I add one scoop of cocoa complex. It’s good for the mind being full of B vitamins helping to reduce stress levels and tiredness. I personally use the NYR Organic one as I really like it and until the end of this year I’m still a consultant for them.  I’m sure you can get other brands, I’m just partial to a cheeky discount.

Such a simple and delicious Smoothie! Coconut milk is such a healthy ingredient and yes much better than cows milk, Soya or almond! I like the way you explain the benefits of every fruit including berries! 🙂

This sounds really healthy and refreshing. I used to have a lot of smoothies but haven’t in the last few years, time to dig out the smoothie maker I think.
